Report Fuzzy and Text Search

Report fuzzy and text search can be accessed at Main Menu > Reports > Search Reports Text.

The image below shows the search bar for the Search Reports Text tab.

The two search options are:

  1. Fuzzy Search - Fuzzy search of Report metadata.

  2. Text Search - Exact search of Report PDF text.

Fuzzy Search

Fuzzy Search is available for Reports. This enables you to search for terms when you are not certain of the exact text used. For example a search for "Gloucestershire" would also find text such as "Glousestershire" and "Glocestershire. This helps you to find items without needing to know precisely how they were entered in the database.

Fuzzy Search can be accessed at Main Menu > Reports > Search Reports Text.

Type a term in the search bar and press Search, ensuring the "Metadata (fuzzy)" button is selected to perform a fuzzy search.

Any Reports which have text in their metadata (Title, Scheme Title etc) similar to the search term will be returned in the grid.

To view details of a report click on the Report in the grid and then click View Report Details on the command bar.

Fuzzy search will not search the contents of PDFs, only metadata such as the Report Title, Scheme title and Author fields. To search the contents of Reports you must use Text Search (see below).

Text Search

The text within PDFs in Reports can be searched for using Text Search. This function searches within Reports for exact text matches. For example searching "piled raft" would return any Reports with the phrase 'piled raft' within its PDF.

Text Search can be accessed at Main Menu > Reports > Search Reports Text.

Ensure the "Text" button is pressed before searching otherwise Report PDF text will not searched.

The effectiveness of Text Search on scanned PDF Reports is dependant on the quality of the Object Character Recognition (OCR) processing on the Report before uploading.
